We started Fun With Books in December 1993 with about 400 registered children. Presently almost 100 volunteers deliver book packages to over 2300 children in about 2100 families throughout the united counties of Leeds and Grenville in eastern Ontario. Each package contains one Little Golden Book and a monthly newsletter. The newsletter includes information to parents about books and reading on one side, and a picture to colour or a puzzle to complete for the child on the other side. These book packages are packed at Thousand Islands Secondary School in Brockville once a month by another group of about 20 volunteers from a local Youth Volunteer Bureau, some Kiwanis Club members, a developmentally handicapped young man and his helper, and other members of our organization. We are very proud that our project is carried out completely by an enthusiastic team of volunteers.

Although is it hard to measure our success, a November 2000 survey funded by the Trillium Foundation of Ontario and carried out by Disotell Consulting (Russ and Penny Disotell of Brockville, Ontario), indicated that our project is achieving its goal.
